AEW Dynamite : January 26th

Beach Break! It’s gonna be a damn good episode. Assuming everything lives up to the hype. Let’s find out.

We are kicking things off with the ladder match to unify the TNT championships. Two belts, two men, one ladder and no rules. A handshake to start and we are underway.

Well, that was pretty damn cool. Both men are a bit worse for wear. So is Fuego. That’s what you get for interrupting.

Sammy hit Cody with a massive senton from the ladder, onto another ladder. It was brutal. From there, Sammy was able to climb to the top and unify the belts. Congratulations to Sammy, our new TNT Champion!

Will Hobbs challenged Dante Martin to a rematch, claiming that it was only luck that Martin won the last one. Ricky Starks finally issued a title match to Jay Lethal for next week on Dynamite.

The hometown hero, Wardlow is in action in a handicap match. He will be taking on the duo of Elijah Dean and James Alexander. It will be the debut for both men and I suspect it won’t go well for them.

It didn’t. Lots and lots of powerbombs and a quick pinfall victory for Mr. Mayhem.

It’s time for a trios match. Jericho, Santana and Ortiz taking on Daniel Garcia and 2point0. The Inner Circle members still came out to the ring together, which was interesting after last weeks drama.

Nonetheless, the drama continued. Santana and Ortiz kept Jericho on the outside for majority of the match, effectively making it a 2 on 3. Santana picked up the win for his team, after a Judas Effect from Jericho.

The Inner Circle captain was not pleased with Santana and Ortiz, declining to celebrate the victory with them in the ring.

Lance Archer and Jake Roberts cut a promo. I couldn’t hear a lot of it. Sounds like it will be a Texas Deathmatch between Archer and Hangman for the AEW Championship. Cool! I think that was set for 2 weeks time.

This Friday on Rampage, Jurassic Express will defend their tag team titles against Private Party.

Here comes CM Punk. I thought I was having too much fun. It was more of the same. I’m so great, MJF sucks, blah blah blah. Finally, MJF is here to save the promo.

The match between MJF and Punk has been booked for next weeks Dynamite. If MJF doesn’t win, I will flip.

Anyway, the chit chat continued for far too long. Eventually, the Pinnacle ended up jumping CM Punk.

Anthony Bowens will face off against Jon Moxley this week on Rampage. Caster will be in Bowens’ corner. Kick his ass, boys.

Tony is backstage with Griff Garrison and Julia Hart. They were quickly interrupted by Mark Sterling, who was offering Julia a title match against Jade. Hart accepted, despite Garrison’s pleas otherwise.

Time for the toilet break match. Legit Leyla Hirsch and Red Velvet, one on one. Yawn. Leyla won via pinfall, with a handful of tights. Doesn’t worry me.

Hirsch continued to beat on Velvet after the match, until Statlander saved the day.

The House of Black are the new number 5 ranked tag team in AEW. Wow. They have promised to educate Pac and take care of business with him soon.

Tony is in the ring and brought out Dr. Britt Baker to present her with 3 awards from PWI – match of the year, wrestler of the year and most improved wrestler of the year. She gladly accepted them and trashed on Baker Mayfield for a while.

Nyla and Vicki came out after the celebrations to complain about Ruby Soho, and request a match against her for next week. I hope she breaks her in half.

Lights out time! Cassidy v Cole! This could be very good or very bad. I’m hopeful though.

Danhausen was hiding under the ring. He didn’t impact the match at all, it was just a pop for the crowd. They loved it.

The match had it’s moments, but I hoped for more bloodshed. The ending was cool though. The result less so. Cassidy picked up the win via pinfall.
