Sony promised it would be short and sweet. They didn’t lie! State of Play was about 20 minutes long and mainly featured a lot of the upcoming Ratchet and Clank gameplay. This upset a lot of viewers, but this was exactly what Sony said it would be so I’m not sure what they had to be upset about.
I’m not upset. First of all, I didn’t even realise there was a State of Play until I checked the news this morning. Oops. Secondly, I’m glad it was small. It means my write up will be small! A little bit of work to start the weekend and then I’m free (mostly) to play video games. Let’s get to it!
First up was the trailer for the upcoming Subnautica : Below Zero, the sequel to the 2014 game. I can’t believe that it was that long ago! I love a good survival game, but am not overly familiar with this franchise. I have played Subnautica, but only very briefly.
I will go back and give it another run though, because Below Zero looks pretty interesting. Admittedly, it’s not my style of preferred graphics, but I can forgive that for a good game. We don’t have much time to go back though, because Below Zero releases on May 14th for the PS4 and 5!
And in some more good news if you own the original Subnautica and a PS5, you will get the original game upgraded for free!
The second game announced was Among Us. I’m pretty keen to try this game out. I’ve been interested in it for a while but never got around to it. It keeps increasing in popularity and seems likely to one day knock Fortnite off of it’s perch. Thank goodness for that!
I’m sure you have heard of Among Us, but if you haven’t it is an online multiplayer game. You are part of a crew and are preparing your spaceship for lunch. However, one or more of the crew is an imposter and is out to sabotage your mission.
It is your job to identify the imposter and launch your ship. Or, if you are the imposter, it is your job to sabotage the launch! It looks like a really fun game. I’m sure I’d enjoy it even more if I had some friends to play it with, but I’ll still give it a go!
Among Us has not been given an exact release date yet, it is just planned for 2021.
Finally, on to the gameplay footage for Ratchet and Clank : Rift Apart. I won’t go into huge detail, you can just watch the footage if you are interested. I skimmed through, I don’t like watching big videos on games until after I’ve played them. I prefer to go in blind!
It does look like a fun game and promises to take advantage of the power possessed by the PS5. In Insomniac, I trust. Ratchet and Clank : Rift Apart will release on the PS5 on June 11th 2021.
