NBA Trade Deadline (’21)

Let’s have a look at all the moving and shaking that happened (and didn’t happen) at the deadline this year!

Victor Oladipo is on his way to Miami, in exchange for Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynk and a draft swap.

If Oladipo plays up to even half of his potential, Miami have won this trade easily. If he doesn’t and ends up a bust, Miami still probably win this trade. No disrespect to Avery Bradley, some disrespect to Kelly Olynk. Get a haircut, you bum!

J.J. Reddick and Nicolo Melli are off to Dallas. James Johnson, Wesley Iwundu and a 2021 2nd round pick are on their way to New Orleans.

A shocking trade involving Davis! Yup, Terence Davis is on his way to Sacramento, in exchange for a a future second round pick. I’m not sure what year.

Brad Wanamaker is on his way to Charlotte, in return for some sweet, sweet cash. I hate it when a player is traded for cash.

The L.A. Clippers part ways with Lou Williams, sending him, 2 second round picks and some cash to Atlanta, in exchange for Rajon Rondo.

It was kind of expected, but also kind of shocking to see the Clippers part ways with their long time 6th man.

The Orlando Magic send Evan Fournier to Boston, and receive Jeff Teague and 2 future first round picks.

Evan Fournier has asked Celtic fans to google his last name if you are unfamiliar with him. I can strongly recommend you don’t do that, it’s a trap.

A 3 team deal went down. Philly acquire : George Hill and Ignas Brazdeikis. Knicks get : Terrance Ferguson. OKC receive : Tony Bradley, Austin Rivers and 2 second round picks, in 2025 and 2026.

Honestly, how many draft picks does one team need?

Portland gain Norman Powell from Toronto, in exchange for Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood.

After all that hype, Kyle Lowry is staying put.

Utah Jazz have acquired the services of Matt Thomas, in exchange for a 2nd round pick from Toronto. Is it just me, or was it a weird deadline from the Raps?

The Sac-Town Kings pick up Maurice Harkless and Chris Silva from Miami, sending Nemanja Bjelica back in return.

In another 3 team deal, the Bulls get : Daniel Theis and Troy Brown Jr. Washington grab : Chandler Hutchinson and Daniel Gafford. Boston acquire : Moritz Wagner and Luke Kornet.

As a Bulls fan, I’m really sad to see Gafford go, but really excited to get Theis. If you guys remember, I fell in love with him during the bubble. I also love C-Hutch and Cool Hand Luke, but neither got a lot of minutes in the Chi (not that Gafford did either), but I hope they both find success with their new teams.

Speaking of Chicago, the big news is they got Nikola Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu. In exchange, Orlando get Wendell Carter Jr. Otto Porter Jr. and 2 first round picks, in 2021 (top 4 protected) and 2023 (top 4 protected).

I am really happy to have Vuc on board, but I hate giving up first round picks. Still, if we get to the playoffs and they are crap picks, who cares? I’m also sad to see WCJ go. No more Juniors on this team! I really thought Lauri would be moved. Makes the off season interesting.

Another big Magic name is on the move. Aaron Gordon and Gary Clark are joining the Denver Nuggets. Orlando get back Gary Harris, R.J. Hampton and 2025 first round pick.

On the topic of the Nuggets, JaVale McGee is joining them as well. The Cavaliers swapped him for Isaiah Hartenstein and 2 second round picks.

In perhaps the biggest trade of the deadline, the Sacramento Kings gain the talent of Mfiondu Kabengele and send a 2nd round pick to the Clippers in return.

The San Antonio Spurs moved Cady Lalanne to Golden State in exchange for Marquese Chris.

I’m gonna level with you guys, even I don’t know who Cady Lalanne is. I honestly thought I knew everybody in the league. Apparently he was drafted by the Spurs way back in 2015 and currently plays in Korea.

Delon Wright has joined Sacramento. Detroit get back Cory Joseph and 2 second round picks, in 2021 and 2024.

Just a quick recap of a few trades that went down a little earlier in the week/month and then we will call it a day.

Houston picked up D.J. Augustin and D.J. Wilson. They also got rights to a pick swap in 2021, that is top 9 protected and a first round pick in 2023. In exchange, Milwaukee got P.J. Tucker, Rodions Kurucs, the aforementioned 2021 pick swap and a 2022 first round pick.

Miami gained Trevor Ariza. OKC get Meyers Leonard and a 2027 second round pick. Yup, another pick for OKC.

Hamidou Diallo joined Detroit a little over a week ago. OKC got Svi Mykhailiuk and another 2027 second round pick.

Lonzo Ball did not leave New Orleans.

John Collins is also staying put in Atlanta.

I think that’s all of them! Let me know if I missed anything.
